Galway Community College of Further Education (GCC) continues to offer full-time courses in a wide variety of career areas designed as a step towards skilled employment, in preparation of starting an apprenticeship, or progression to further and higher education. All one-year courses offer a mix of blended learning, with work experience which gives the opportunity to people, who are unsure of their career path, to taste a vocational area before committing to a longer course. These courses are aimed at Leaving Certificate graduates, mature learners, and anyone finding themselves unemployed or facing uncertain job security, this is the perfect time to reevaluate their options regarding their future career paths.

We currently have nearly 84,000 school leavers and adults seeking places in third level colleges in September 2021, along with a growing number of applicants from other European countries opting to seek to continue studying in an English-speaking country within the European Union.

There is much speculation this year as to whether CAO entry points requirements will increase again in 2021. It is my firm view that they will, particularly in the high points courses where competition is at its fiercest.

Three Galway students were among the 30 recipients of awards at Athlone Institute of Technology’s Scholarship of Excellence ceremony this week – the highest number of recipients since the awards’ inauguration four years ago.

These courses help students to develop crucial communication skills, presentation skills, and improved project management while learning key IT programmes and techniques.

Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) will host a virtual open day on this Saturday, April 24, to help prospective students make an informed decision as they navigate the CAO decision-making process.
