GMIT Mayo launches new part-time honours art degree

GMIT Mayo has launched a new part-time honours art degree, one of only two level seven (honours) part-time art courses offered by a third-level college in Ireland. The new Bachelor of Arts (honours) in fine art is a two year add-on degree which comprises modules in painting and critical theory. It will be delivered in the Mayo campus in Castlebar one and a half days a week during the academic year, commencing September (2014). Graduates will be able to work as practitioners in the fields of painting or, subject to further specialisation and experience, in the fields of community arts, public art, arts administration, art and design education, curation, practice/theory based research, and careers linked to contemporary visual art and design culture.

Major increase in CAO applications for GMIT construction programmes

The latest CAO figures (March 2014) show a bounce back in demand for construction and civil engineering programmes in GMIT. Applications for the honours degree in construction economics and quantity surveying are up 80 per cent this year on last, while applications for the honours degree in architectural technology are up 43 per cent.

Demand for science courses at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) has soared by 30 per cent, with nearly 6,300 mentions recorded through the CAO for science programmes at the institute. The number of applicants for honours degrees at AIT has risen by 20 per cent, to over 4,500.

There has been an increase in the number of people applying to study at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT). Figures released by the Central Applications Office (CAO) show an increase of more than 300 applicants to both honours degrees and higher certificates/ordinary degrees at the institute.

Places still available as AIT prepares for influx of new students

As next Monday’s deadline for acceptance of CAO offers looms closer, Athlone Institute of Technology has announced there are still places available on six full-time undergraduate courses.
