One of the best cookery programmes of the last few weeks has been Rick’s India on the BBC with the English restaurateur, chef, and cookery-school owner once again donning his signature blue and pink shirts embarking on a culinary odyssey in search of the world’s best food.

McWilliam Park Hotel offers a €25 menu to include a three course meal and glass of house wine on Thursday evening. Menu items include: jumbo prawn butterfly (golden fried prawns marinated with fresh ginger and garlic served with lettuce leaves and chilli sauce); lamb biryani basmati rice combined with meat flavoured saffron and mild oriental spices.

Way back in the dim and distant past I was a devoted customer at the Eastern Tandoori in South William Street, Dublin. It was the very early 1980s and in the days when I had an expense account that included lunch every day (God bless Digital). This meant that I had an Eastern Tandoori lunch at least once a week, and while there were other Indian restaurants to choose from, this was the best.
