Rehab seeks Westmeath volunteers for Five Peaks

Rehab is calling on Westmeath adventurers and all those with an interest in the outdoors to sign up for the ultimate challenge of 2012, while at the same time raising money for HeadsUp, Rehab’s youth suicide prevention project. The Five Peaks Challenge takes place over three days, from August 3 -5, with participants climbing the five highest mountains in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales.

Kilkenny climbers to tackle Ben Nevis

A group of 17 climbers from Kilkenny will embark on a sponsored climb of Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the British Isles, in order to raise funds for the Kilkenny Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KSPCA).

As well as completing one of the great challenges in mountaineering this year, Thomastown’s Tony Stapleton and Inistioge’s Jim Treacy completed the Liffey Descent 2009 and became All-Ireland champions in the Open Canadian Class of the Irish Canoe Union’s league of marathon races.
