A full round of fixtures in the Mayo League Super League is pencilled in for this weekend, with two games down for tomorrow night and three more on Sunday afternoon. Both Ballyglass and Achill will be contesting their third games in the division, with six others their second game, while both Claremorris and defending champions Westport United will get their league boots dirty for the first time this season.

Last weekend's big kick-off of the Mayo League saw plenty of surprises in the top division, with Glenhest, Manulla and and Straide and Foxford United all picking up the points against what was perceived as superior opponents, while a new look Ballyheane laid down a marker of intent with an impressive 5-1 win at home over league new boys Achill Rovers.

In the top division all eyes will be fixed on seeing whether anyone can finally step up and stop Westport United's domination of the league. In August all of Mayo were rooting behind one man, when Castlebar's Nicholas Quinn became the first Mayoman since 2008 to take part in the Olympic Games. The 23-year-old student won his heat in the 200m butterfly in a time of 2:11.67 but just missed out a place in the next round of the competition. He also took part in the 100m butterfly finishing fourth in his heat. The young Castlebar man returned to the county town to a hero's welcome after his efforts in Rio.

The two sides who will be joining the big boys of Mayo junior soccer next season are now known, as Achill Rovers clinched second place in the Premier Division with a dramatic 3-2 win away to Partry Athletic last Sunday. The islanders booked their place as Brandon McGing put them in front for the first time in the game with seven minutes left to ensure they pipped Bangor Hibs to the promotion spot. Partry who were battling to stay in the division themselves took the lead early on through Jason Duddy, before John Kiernan pulled them level five minutes later. Athletic went back in front before the breakthrough, Michael Seoighe heading home. However Achill dug deep and Sean McNamara levelled it up with 24 minutes left on the clock before McGing's late strike sealed the deal for them.

Westport United's David Hoban will be part of the Irish squad that will take part in this Regions Cup in Italy at the end of the month. The United man will make up part of a 18-man squad that have been drawn in a group with Macedonia, Slovenia and Italy. Manulla's Cillian McGlade has been put on standby for the squad. The competition kicks off on September 28 when Ireland take on Italy, they follow that up with a clash with Macedonia on September 30 and then take on Slovenia on October 2.
