Human Chain: Dutch contemporary drawing at Ballina Arts Centre

Ballina Arts Centre showcased some of the best in contemporary drawing from the Netherlands with Human Chain, an exhibition featuring the work of seven Dutch artists. The exhibition, which features a wide variety of styles of drawing, was selected by Arno Kramer (who is also one of the artists in the exhibition) and will run at the venue until the end of October.

Leslie Dowdall is the voice and songwriter behind the sound that was In Tua Nua, Mike Hanrahan is the voice and songwriter that is Stockton’s Wing, and they will be taking to the stage together in the Ballina Arts Centre on Thursday, June 15.  Following her stint fronting legendary Irish band In Tua Nua, Leslie Dowdall’s solo career began in earnest with the release of No Guilt, No Guile in 1997. The album won high praise for its creativity and featured hit single ‘Wonderful Thing’. 

Getting to the core of the youth music scene in Ballina

Since Music Generation Mayo's latest programme 'The Core' opened its doors in November 2016 it has been a bustling hive of musical activity. Belt up for a brilliant month of Bealtaine events

Age and Opportunity has announced an exciting line-up of Mayo-based events which will take place during the month of May as part of Bealtaine 2017, Ireland's annual festival of creativity as we age. Now in its 22nd year, Bealtaine continues to be embraced by the Mayo community with many arts and cultural events organised by local libraries, arts centres, care settings, galleries, active retirement groups, and community groups across the county. This year’s theme, All together now, will stage major events in Mayo.

Gatehouse come to Ballina

Gatehouse are a newly-formed band with a line up of experienced and up and coming artists, who recently launched debut album Tús Nua. Gatehouse are John McEvoy (fiddle/viola/piano), Jacinta McEvoy (guitar/concertina/backing vocals), Rachel Garvey (vocals), and John Wynne (flutes/whistles). They will be taking to the stage in Ballina Arts Centre on Friday, March 24, at 8pm.

Throughout March and April, Ballina Arts Centre will present Girlhood, an exhibition by Mayo artist Orla Sloyan. Girlhood is the collaborative result of a photographic project between the photographer and the Maughan family that documents the family’s special and intimate occasions from 2007 to 2016.
