As part of READiscover Your Library month, a talk will take place in the Aidan Heavey Public Library, Athlone on ‘Researching your Relatives in the British Army’ (World War I and World War II) on Tuesday March 29 starting at 7.30pm. Admission is free but places for this talk are limited so advance booking is essential.

Local radio promotes heritage

Athlone community radio is currently producing a series of six programmes called “Heritage on your Doorstep” as part of national heritage week, August 21-29, and will cover such topics as architecture, archaeology, cultural heritage, and local wildlife. Two events being run in conjunction with this are a tour of Athlone town and an exhibition of children’s art, and both events are free of charge.

New look athlone.ie launched

Months of hard work came to fruition this week when a cross section of the community of Athlone welcomed the new look Athlone portal www.athlone.ie at an exclusive preview launch held in the Civic Centre this week. The new look site will go live this weekend. This is the fourth version of athlone.ie since it was first launched in December 2001.
