Students from the Midlands were celebrating this week after taking home a number of awards from the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2011 which took place at the RDS at the weekend.

The Athlone Community College Gaelic Football initiative is now progressing well for its first year and under 14 footballers.

Athlone Community College students Michelle McHugh, Mark Roche, Sorcha McManus, and Gavin Ward, along with school principal Eileen Donohoe, recently returned from an eye-opening trip to Rwanda in Africa. A new school building for Athlone Community College could be on the cards as early as 2012. The news follows the announcement this week that the school is among eight nationwide which are ready to be offered to the market under the Public Private Partnership.
