With a new art gallery, newly refurbished castle, funding for an extension of the Regional Sports Centre, and a European Town of Sport designation, Athlone is “in an exceptional place” going into 2013, according to the mayor Jim Henson.

The Rotary Club of Athlone has selected Laura Marie Kelly from Athlone Community College to represent the Club in the regional finals of Rotary’s Youth Leadership competition. This is an annual, all-Ireland competition aimed at helping young people prepare for their future careers. The Youth Leadership competition is part of the Rotary’s development programme for young people, emphasising leadership, citizenship, and personal growth.
