Ballroom of Romance director revisits Ballycroy

Film Mayo was delighted to have internationally renowned film director Pat O’Connor as its special guest for the launch of Film Mayo, which took place before Christmas. Pat has a very special relationship with Mayo since filming The Ballroom of Romance in Ballycroy in the early eighties. He has very fond memories of his time in Mayo, particularly the warmth of the people in Ballycroy. The reason that Pat agreed to be the special guest at the launch of Film Mayo was because of the affection he holds in his heart for Mayo. During his recent visit Pat talked of how shooting in Mayo was a very special time for him and one of the most fulfilling experiences that he has ever had film-making.

Upstart - celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Mayo County Council Arts Service has been leading, supporting, and developing arts and disability programmes throughout the county and it initiated a support scheme through International Day of Persons with Disabilities three years ago. This scheme, now entitled Upstart, provides support for arts projects/events in Mayo, designed to provide a quality arts experience for people with disabilities in their own locality.

Children’s BookFest 2008 in Killucan and Mullingar libraries

Westmeath County Library and Arts Service welcomed John W Sexton on October 2 to launch Children’s BookFest 2008 and to mark the first National Poetry Day Ireland.
