In 1992, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed December 3 as International Disabled People’s Day, which brings together individuals, businesses, community organisations, and governments from every corner of the world to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions, skills, and achievements of disabled people. Mayo County Council’s Arts Office has made a considerable commitment to the development of arts and disability and has an excellent working relationship with a number of local arts initiatives for groups of disabled artists such as the Luisne visual arts project, Ballinrobe, and the Scanán Technology project, Ballina.

Custom House Studios later this month will host an exhibition of artworks from Carrowbeg Enterprises Art Project. The exhibition will be opened by Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Austin Francis O’Malley on Thursday, January 26 at 7.30pm. The exhibition will include works by six participants who have been engaged in an ongoing printmaking and fine art workshop over the past six months under the guidance of Grainne O’Reilly and Caroline Masterson. The participants are Trish Kelly, Peggy Kierney, Anna Rose Lowery, Marie Maguire, Gerry O’Malley and Martina Walsh.

Mayo County Council’s Arts Office has made a considerable commitment to the development of arts and disability throughout the county. Once again, the Arts Office is supporting International Disabled People’s Day through the provision of support for arts projects/events in Mayo which include a variety of groups of disabled people.

It’s that time of year again; when cultural organisations and groups are busily preparing to throw open their door to audiences who eagerly anticipate the delights that await on September 23. The event in Mayo began in 2009 and Mayo was the first countywide Culture Night. Since then the number of participants has steadily grown and this year 25 cultural hotspots throughout County Mayo will be sharing and showcasing a wide variety of cultural events on September 23.

Dublin-based artist Martina O’Brien will present her exhibition Expanse in the Watergate Theatre, Upstairs Gallery from Friday 19th August to Friday 16th September 2011. The exhibition will be officially opened by on Thursday 25th August at 5pm.

Culture Night takes place in the county on September 23 as 25 cultural hotspots will be sharing and showcasing a wide variety of events.

We’re all in this together’ is an exhibition of print works in The Watergate Theatre from July 22 - August 19.

Dublin based collective Wassa Wassa features a colourful show of West African percussion, song and dance and will be performing on Main Street, Castlebar on Saturday July 23 at 1.30pm.
