ON THE night of Thursday February 1 1996, Galway’s newly refurbished Town Hall Theatre officially opened with the world premiere of Druid’s production of Martin McDonagh's The Beauty Queen of Leenane.

AS 2015 exits stage left, 2016 awaits it cue and the year ahead in the Town Hall has much for theatre-goers to look forward to. First out of the blocks, on January 15th and 16th, is local company No Ropes with The Open Couple, Dario Fo and France Rama’s sharp marital comedy, which enjoyed a sell-out run earlier this year.

Yet Vernon God Little completely bypassed my own funnybone and that is nothing to do with Decadent’s fine stage adaptation of DBC Pierre’s Booker-winning novel. His brand of humour just doesn’t float my boat.
