A meeting between EU officials and an Irish delegation led by Fianna Fáil TD Frank Fahey over the Galway City Outer Bypass has been labelled a “pointless junket” and a “waste of taxpayers’ money”.

The controversial Galway City Outer Bypass will be the subject of a high level meeting in Brussels next week involving the European Commission.

The approved section of the Galway City Outer Bypass should be included in the major road projects on the N17 and N18 which are proceeding under Public Private Partnerships.

The establishment of a dedicated taskforce to tackle Galway’s traffic problems is welcome and must have as its priorities bus and commuter transport development.
