Having enjoyed great success at underage level in recent years Kilkenny have made the breakthrough at adult level again, to qualify for the Gala All-Ireland senior camogie championship semi-final courtesy of their away win over Dublin on Saturday last (2-14 to 0-4).

Local senior camogie player Jacqui Frisby has made the final 10 in the inaugural Gala Performance Award introduced this year to recognise the most outstanding individual performance during the course of the Gala All-Ireland Senior Championship, and Jacqui demonstrated her remarkable talent in the Tipperary V Kilkenny game in Semple Stadium on June 27. This led to the Kilkenny senior player making the shortlist of nominees for best performance of the season.

The Rebels secured their 24th Gala All-Ireland senior title on Sunday in headquarters with a fantastic performance overcoming Ann Downey’s Kilkenny on a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-7. Cork were in front by three points at the break, giving the Black and Amber a real chance of a comeback.

It’s a challenge Galway have never overcome. The county’s intermediate camogie players take centre stage on Saturday when they meet Cork in the All Ireland camogie final at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, knowing they have the chance to write themselves into the history books.

The Kilkenny Kittens may have been the defeated finalists in this years All-Ireland final, but they managed 11 All-star nominations this year only one fewer than their victors Cork.

Beaten semi-finalists Galway received three camogie All-Stars awards.

Galway celebrated All Ireland success this week with the intermediate camogie players claiming this year’s honours in Saturday’s replay over Cork at McDonagh Park, Nenagh.

The Kilkenny annual Camogie Awards Night will take place on Friday, January 29, 2010 in Langtons House Hotel. This year the awards night will also incorporate a clubs night which enables all camogie clubs to also hold their dinner dance on the very same night.
