Despite the economy being in recession and a summer characterised by rain, the Galway Arts Festival managed to enjoy a bumper year, drawing in record crowds for many shows.
FROM MUSIC to dance, from theatre, street performances, to exhibitions of all kinds, the Galway Arts Festival is continually seeking innovative ways to engage with its ever expanding audiences, and this year is no exception with the new addition of the First Thought Talks series.
Public interviews, readings, and talks will take place with Chic’s Nile Rodgers (Hotel Meyrick, July 19); actors John Mahoney and Rondi Reed (Hotel Meyrick, July 19); and Fintan O’Toole will interview Mary Robinson and later Tom Murphy and Garry Hynes (Town Hall, July 27).
The annual BPW summer lunch which took place in the Ardilaun Hotel last Friday, and was kindly sponsored by RDJ Glynn, certainly was a unique occasion as BPW Galway celebrated 25 years since being founded in Galway by Breda Ryan and her committee, and has gone from strength to strength since then. On that morning Breda and John Ryan unveiled a plaque to commemorate the establishment of the club.
