Galway overcome sluggish start to remove relegation threat

The threat of relegation from division one has been removed from Galway’s final game of the Allianz Hurling League away to Westmeath this weekend after a solid performance led to a deserved 1-24 to 0-22 win over Clare in Cusack Park on Sunday.The return of Eanna Murphy, Daithí Burke, Ronan Glennon, Evan Niland, Brian Concannon, and Conor Whelan to the starting 15 suggested this was Galway’s strongest available line-up, but it took some time for them to come to terms with the challenge a lively Clare side posed.

Gregory grandson reads ‘An Irish Airman’ at RAF centenary celebration

A great grandson of Galway's World War I fighter ace Major Robert Gregory, Robin Murray Brown, read WB Yeats' famous poem An Irish Airman Foresees His Death in Belfast last Sunday. St Anne's Cathedral was filled to capacity for a service to commemorate the centenary of the Royal Air Force (RAF), which succeeded the Royal Flying Corps in which Major Gregory flew. Major Gregory joined the war effort in 1916 and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry. He was also awarded the Legion d’Honneur — France’s highest honour.

Seven Springs Cycling Club are once again proud to host their annual Grand Prix race meeting this Sunday March 19. The event, based in Carrabane, Athenry, is one of only six such events held each year in Connacht and attracts the cream of Ireland’s amateur racing cyclists.
