As part of READiscover Your Library month, a talk will take place in the Aidan Heavey Public Library, Athlone on ‘Researching your Relatives in the British Army’ (World War I and World War II) on Tuesday March 29 starting at 7.30pm. Admission is free but places for this talk are limited so advance booking is essential.

Athlone Literary Festival takes place this year from Friday to Sunday September 24 to 26, with a jampacked programme of events to include workshops and readings, to debates and art exhibitions.

Local radio promotes heritage

Athlone community radio is currently producing a series of six programmes called “Heritage on your Doorstep” as part of national heritage week, August 21-29, and will cover such topics as architecture, archaeology, cultural heritage, and local wildlife. Two events being run in conjunction with this are a tour of Athlone town and an exhibition of children’s art, and both events are free of charge.
