Hundreds of emotional, excitable fans thronged the Mullingar Arts Centre last Wednesday night for the first home appearance of the Joe Dolan reunion tour.

IT IS a manic time for Dublin indie-pop mavericks Fight Like Apes. “We have worked our asses off. We have not been home for even a week in months,” declares singer MayKay of the whirlwind circuit that has seen them play Oxegen, Glastonbury, Reading, and Castle-palooza, before supporting the Ting Tings British tour this month.

Now the magic of Ireland’s best-loved and greatest entertainer is set to come back to Castlebar. The Reunion Show – On Tour, will feature the star himself, Joe Dolan, in an outstanding live production that reunites his former band mates, including his brother Ben and nephews Ray and Adrian, with a state of the art video-projected Joe. All music heard is performed live except for Joe’s vocals in this specially adapted touring show. Also, Ben Dolan will narrate the life story of his younger brother Joe, with whom he’d shared a stage for 47 fun-filled and much travelled years.

The famous phrase ‘There’s No Show Like a Joe Show’ is expected to ring out across the west next month when the most acclaimed musical event of the last year, the award-winning Joe Dolan - The Reunion Show, rolls into the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Romance will most certainly be in the air for Joe’s many fans in the west as the magical state-of-the-art production will be staged at the new entertainment mecca on Valentine’s Night, February 14, as part of a weekend-long musical celebration which also features country and western megastar, Jimmy Buckley.
