Members of Mayo County Council have questioned costs relating to the imposition of septic tank charges.

Fianna Fáil councillor Margaret Adams this week questioned the cost of the upgrade works on the N5 Westport to Castlebar road at Kilbree that were recently carried out and if there was any more work to be carried out at the location. She said that she was disappointed that the hill had not been taken out of the road as part of the works. Cllr Peter Flynn backed up Cllr Adams on the issue, also expressing his disappointment that the hill had not been taken out of the road as it was a safety issue for people.

Residents of Mullingar’s Ennel Court say they are sick of waiting for the council to sort their estate out while they are left to deal with derelict properties, rat infestations, and an unsafe environment for their children.

Funding to cut roadside hedges and to cut back verges is down by more than 60 per cent and that’s why the county’s roads are quickly being overgrown by vegetation, angry councillors were told this week when they queried why hedges were being cut in some areas and not in others.
