Achill Island and Louisburgh longlisted as Best Place to Holiday in Ireland

Achill Island and Louisburgh have made it on to the longlist in The Irish Times’ competition The Best Place to Holiday in Ireland. It will join 23 other holiday hotspots in the race to be named as Ireland’s best place to holiday. The other finalists include Dingle, Inis Meain and The Shannon River. Every county in the country was represented in the competition, with over 1,400 entries submitted in total by members of the public. Mayo bathing waters meet EU standards

Twelve out of 15 beaches in Mayo were found to have good bathing water quality according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and all 15 were found to meet the mandatory values as set out by the EU.

Achill Half Marathon launched

The popular Achill Half Marathon, with a new 10K race added for 2013, was officially launched last Friday April 26, in Pieta House, Dublin. “Pieta House is our charity partner for this year,” explained Pauric Corrigan of Achill Events Management, the organisers of the event “and we are delighted to be able to raise awareness of the vital service the voluntary organisation provides for its clients.”
