The specially commissioned paintings by Dublin-born artist Evie Hone were part of a set of 14 Stations of the Cross estimated to be worth about €500,000. Following the robbery at St Peter and Paul's Church, Crimestoppers offered a reward for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen artwork.
Man killed after car leaves road and enters river
Gardaí from Claremorris are appealing for witnesses to a single vehicle fatal traffic collision. At approximately 8am a 35-year-old male died when his car left the road on the R327 near Cloonfad and entered the Dalgan River. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been removed to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Woman seriously injured in Claremorris crash
A woman who was seriously injured in a crash between a truck and a car yesterday was airlifted to hospital following the incident. The crash happened on the N17 at Claremorris at around 12 noon yesterday afternoon (November 19). At the time of going to print, no further update on the driver's condition was available.
