Ballinrobe Community School chosen for ground-breaking project on discipline

A Department of Education funded project on positive school behaviour was recently launched by the NBSS, the body given responsibility to improve discipline in our schools. Only seven schools in the country have been chosen to take part in this project, and Ballinrobe Community School is the only one in Connacht to have been selected.

The NBSS initially became involved with Ballinrobe Community School in May 2007, along with 50 other schools, in a nationwide project to deal with widespread concerns about discipline in schools.

Mulherin questions long term lease plan — is it for the benefit of builders or people?

Fine Gael county councillor Michelle Mulherin questioned the use of the new long term lease plan announced by the Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, Michael Finneran TD recently. Minister Finneran announced the €20 million project when he was in Ballina recently to announce the multi million euro funding for the rejuvenation of St Patrick’s Estate in the town.

Table quiz

Mayo General Hospital’s social club table quiz will take place on February 24 at 9pm in Rocky’s, Linenhall Street, Castlebar. The quiz costs €40 per table of four and there will be prizes galore with the proceeds going towards cystic fibrosis. And of course, as it is Shrove Tuesday, pancakes will be served.

Think road safety

The spirit of Irish culture will flood the streets in St Patrick’s Day parades across the county on March 17, but this year the road safety officer is requesting all parade organising committees to keep road safety at the forefront by encouraging entrants to enter road safety floats or groups highlighting road safety, to remind all road users that they can play their part in road safety awareness.
