Magnificent seven for spooky Halloween ball line-up

A Halloween fancy dress ball at Garbo’s, Castlebar, on Saturday October 25, looks set to be a hit with no fewer than seven bands entertaining on the night. Bats, Shardborne, Race The Flux, New Valley Wolves, Fox Jaw, Twisted Wrath, and Hail From Russia are all taking to the stage for the frightfest ball. Garbo’s will be transformed into a Halloween fortress for the night and there is a prize of €500 up for grabs for the best fancy dress. Headline act for the night is Dublin band Bats.

High performance Oceans' Seven swimmer and former rugby player to speak at Meet West

Corkman Stephen Redmond, the first person in the world to complete all seven open-water swims that make up the Ocean’s Seven Challenge has been lined up as the guest speaker for Meet West networking dinner on November 20. Having already swum the Irish Channel, The English Channel, The Strait of Gibraltar, The Cook Strait, The Molokai Channel, and The Catalina Channel, the former rugby player swam the 12.5 mile Tsugaru Strait in Japan in July 2012 to complete a goal he set himself in 2009.

Aldi Stores (Ireland) has this week congratulated Carr and Sons Seafood Ltd which won a prestigious title at the 2014 Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards in Dingle, Co Kerry. The Killala-based supplier won a bronze medal for Aldi’s Specially Selected Irish Organic Salmon. Aldi’s Irish suppliers won nine awards this year and now have a total of 75 Blas na hÉireann Awards since 2009. Commenting, Aldi Ireland’s Group Buying Director, Rob Farrell, said: “We are thrilled by the phenomenal performance of our Irish suppliers winning nine awards. These Blas na hÉireann awards are a real testament to the quality products that we source from some of the very best food and drink producers in the country. The event is designed as a master class for potential new exporters on how to internationalise their business from an Irish base. “Indigenous Irish exports are growing year on year and our priority is to build on this momentum, getting more and more Irish companies into exporting and winning new business,” said Barry Egan, director – West Region at Enterprise Ireland.
