The Way Things - Tadhg McGrath exhibition at the Linenhall

The Way Things, an exhibition of large textural paintings by artist Tadhg McGrath, continues at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar.

The exhibition “explores memory and contemporary history, applying traditional techniques to current mediated reportage”, Tadhg explains. “The Way Things is a series of paintings and drawings derived from imagery of environmental protests in Mayo in 2006-7. The paintings are made in shallow relief in wire and plaster, and then painted in oils. The surfaces are treated to create a mixture of textures.

Cabinet of Wonders at the Linenhall

The Cabinet of Wonders is an ongoing curated visual art project presented in glass cabinets in the foyer of the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar.

In keeping with the theme, the project aims to present an ongoing installation of small artworks by selected artists in all manner of media, a literal showcase intended “to engage, intrigue, surprise and delight”.

Take in some art in Achill this summer

The Western Light Art Gallery, The Sandybanks, Keel, Achill Island will host an exhibition by Anna St George called A Place Apart that will run until the end of the summer. This collection of oil paintings is described by the artist: "Achill Island is an outlying place, both geographically and mentally. It offers an escape from routine lifestyle and cluttered mind, thus bringing about a rare tranquil clarity. The natural colours and light you can find nowhere else, Achill Island is aesthetically unique to say the least and this is what I hope to capture in this exhibition."
