Garrymore Drama Group presents Thy Will Be Done

The ever popular Garrymore Drama Group returns to Claremorris Town Hall with a cracking production of Michael Carey’s hit play Thy Will Be Done on Friday, November 17, at 8pm.

This is the story of two brothers, Jack and Peteen, who live side by side but have not spoken in 40 years, with home help, Bridie, acting as a go-between. Peteen’s has been a failed marriage, with his wife emigrating to America just before their son was born, never to return. When she dies in America, their son returns to Ireland and is torn between his love for his uncle and his respect for his father.

Big Tom and Johnny McEvoy for The Galway Sessions

Country and Irish legends Big Tom and Margo, along with folk singer Johnny McEvoy, headline the Galway Sessions in The Salthill Hotel. The Galway Sessions, hosted by Michael Commins, take place on Sunday November 5 and Monday 6. Johnny McEvoy has been active on the folk scene since the 1960s and even once supported the Rolling Stones. His performance on Sunday will be his debut at the Galway Sessions.

Selection of O'Malley collection to go on display at Custom House Studios

Custom House Studios in Westport is hosting an exhibition of a selection of works from the The Irish American Cultural Institute’s O’Malley Collection of 20th Century Art at the University of Limerick. The exhibition was formally opened by Pearce O’Malley, chief of the O’Malley Clan, last night at Custom House Studios Westport.

In 1938 Irish Republican Ernie O’Malley returned to his childhood home of Mayo with his American wife, artist Helen Hooker. They made their home at Burrishoole Lodge, near Newport on the northern shore of Clew Bay. The couple began to collect art works and build a collection of modern Irish, European, and American art, as well as photographs and objects. They also set out examining life in rural Ireland and compiled an extensive collection of photographs of examples of Irish sculpture, as well as the people in Mayo, capturing their way of life and the environment that surrounded them.

Human Chain: Dutch contemporary drawing at Ballina Arts Centre

Ballina Arts Centre showcased some of the best in contemporary drawing from the Netherlands with Human Chain, an exhibition featuring the work of seven Dutch artists. The exhibition, which features a wide variety of styles of drawing, was selected by Arno Kramer (who is also one of the artists in the exhibition) and will run at the venue until the end of October.
