The world renowned Mark Duly will give a recital in Castlebar, in addition to the Mayo Male Voice Choir and St Joseph's Secondary School Senior Choir, in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, this evening, Friday December 16 at 8pm.
Mark Duly came to Ireland in 1992 as organist and director of music at Christ Church Cathedral Dublin. Organist of the Collegiate Church of St Nicholas, Galway, he now also pursues a busy freelance musical career internationally. In addition to his post in Galway, he is the founder-director of his own professional choir Resurgam, and holds the posts of chorus master to the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir and artistic director of Pipeworks. As both conductor and organist he has appeared with most of the major Irish ensembles and has given organ recitals world-wide, including in his native New Zealand.

Campbell’s Tavern in Cloughanover is the place to be for music lovers this Christmas period, beginning this evening, December 16 at 9pm with the Home for Christmas show with Matt Cunningham his family and friends at 9pm. This year’s show is in aid of Ability West and special guests on the night will include John Duggand and All Ireland Sean Nós Dancing Champion Padraig Hopkins. Admission for the show is €15.
On Sunday afternoon this weekend, December 18 it’s the turn of the Cloughanover Music School, who will be putting on a free performance from 3pm, one for music lovers everywhere. That will be followed at 6pm by the annual tree lighting ceremony, where family fun and Christmas Carols galore will be to the fore. On Thursday night December 22, with Christmas coming fast The Deans, featuring our own local man Ronan Lally, will take to the stage at 9.30pm for an unmissable night of entertainment, admission is €8 for this show.

The transition year students of Ballinrobe Community School are providing the opportunity to forget about the doom and gloom with their sparkling production of Footloose. They will put on two performances this weekend, tonight Friday December 16 at 8pm and tomorrow Saturday December 17 at 8.30pm in the school hall.

While controversy has occasionally followed him in his career, Tiernan has continued to pack them in across the country and world-wide. In the lead up to Christmas he has just released his new DVD Crooked Man, filmed in City Limits in Cork, and is on a nationwide tour which will have its last pre-Christmas stop in The Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on December 22.
