The Answer have just confirmed a intimate show at Castlebar’s new independent music venue, The Clubhouse this summer. The Answer were formed in 2000 by guitarist Paul Mahon, whose father was a jazz trumpeter and member of seminal Irish showband The Freshmen, who released three albums on CBS and toured with the likes of the Beach Boys. Aged 18, Paul knew he wanted to put together a rock band and mentioned it to bassist Micky Waters, an old school friend who had been in numerous cover bands around Belfast.

The annual Heinrich Boll memorial weekend will be taking place over the weekend of Friday, May 4 to Sunday May 6 at the Cyril Gray memorial hall, Dugort, Achill. The event will be launched by the recently appointed German Ambassador to Ireland, Dr Eckhar Lubkemeir in the Cyril Gray hall on Friday, May 4 at 7.30pm.

Billy Ocean is the biggest black recording star Britain has ever produced, having sold more than 30 million records in his lifetime. Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records, for which his second single was the Motown-ish ‘Love Really Hurts Without You’, which reached number two in the UK charts and number 12 in the US. On Bank Holiday Sunday May 6 he will be taking to the stage in the Royal Theatre Castlebar, with tickets costing €33.20 and the show starting at 8.30pm.

St Gerald’s College Music Department recently staged their second spring recital in the Linenhall Arts Centre. Following the success of last year in the school, it was thought to move to a proper concert setting of the Linenhall Arts Centre. Some 60 sang, played, and danced to a full house.

Liam Geddes, 21 and a native of Ballina, is one of the favourites to win the new TV show, The Voice of Ireland.
Liam is the only representative from the west of Ireland. He competed in Eurosong in 2008 and was the youngest competitor at that time, indeed Louis Walsh, who was a judge on Eurosong 2008, said Liam was the best new singer in Ireland. He has always dreamt of being a singer and this is his big chance because the winner picks up a massive recording deal with Universal Music. His mentor is Kian Egan. Liam will be on again on this Sunday March 25 and if he gets through, again on Sunday April 8.

Ex-Iron Maiden front-man Blaze Bayley and his band will be making their way to Castlebar this May where he will performing at Castlebar’s new independent music venue The Clubhouse. Blaze Bayley started his musical career as the lead vocalist of Wolfsbane. When Bruce Dickinson departed heavy metal band Iron Maiden in 1993, Blaze Bayley was chosen as his replacement. Blaze recorded two albums with Iron Maiden in the nineties that included The X Factor and Virtual X1. Following Blaze Bayley's departure from Iron Maiden 1999, he formed his own band, BLAZE. In 2000 the band released their debut studio album Silicon Messiah.
