Joe Rooney has been making people laugh for the last 15 years from places as far flung as Atlanta and Edinburgh, from Oman to Oslo, and from Dubai to Dublin, and now he is bringing his hilarious show to The Dalton Inn, Claremorris, on Saturday December 15 as part of the Claremorris Festive Festival of Comedy. With observations about everything from fatherhood to one armed chemistry teachers, his infectious enthusiasm leaves audiences of all ages in tears of laughter. Throw in a few hilarious musical interludes and you have a recipe for comedy genius. Tickets are €15 and are available from The Dalton Inn, Claremorris.

Visit the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar on Saturday, December 15 for a jam-packed day of family-fun. Workshops, festive tunes, and a visit to Santa and his elves will make this a day to remember for all the family. Santa and his elves will be waiting in the Hearth and Home section of the Museum to meet children from 12noon to 2.30pm, while drop-in workshops for children and traditional tunes for all ages will take place in the Museum Galleries from 2pm to 5pm. Admission to see Santa costs €2 per child and tickets will be available from 11.30am at the Museum reception.

The Skreen/Dromard set dancing group organises a Christmas céili each year at the local community centre which is situated on the main Ballina to Sligo road opposite the Fiddlers Elbow. This year they have organised their annual ceili for Saturday, December 8 at the earlier time of 9pm. Music on the night is provided by the Copperplate Céilí Band. The proceeds of this céilí go to provide much needed funds for the upkeep of the community centre which facilitates programmes for all age groups from playschool to senior citizens. The kitchen staff will be on hand to serve tea and home-made bakes to all who attend. Admission is €10 so why not come along as a good night is assured for all who attend. Emma is a visual artist working mainly in the medium of glass. Her artistic practice is inspired by the natural environment in the west of Ireland, and the wild flowers and plants that populate the countryside. Captivated by these enchanting plants, Emma creates collections of these wild flowers out of glass, eternally capturing their beauty.
