Breaffy GAA Club and the Irish Heart Foundation are looking forward to Saturday November 9 when Strictly Come Dancing Breaffy style returns to the Breaffy House Sports Arena. Ten couples are in serious training to see who will be crowned the 2013 Strictly Come Dancing champions following in the footsteps of last year’s deserving winners Brendan Cunningham and Celia McDermott. This year’s show is expected to meet the high standard of last year’s inaugural production, and behind the scenes months of preparation and planning will soon come to fruition. The judging panel consisting of Walter Donoghue, Brendan Cunningham, and Ivanka Nikimov, along with the hilarious Frank Forde as compere are definitely going to live up to expectations and leave us with a night to remember.

Ballina Arts Centre rolls out the red carpet for Don Baker

Ballina Arts Centre presents an evening with Don Baker on Friday November 15 at 8pm. Irish singer, songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player Don Baker is marking 40 years as a professional musician with a new album My Songs, My Friends, featuring a star-studded line-up of guests. The man affectionately known as The Don became a professional musician in 1973, having initially been inspired to take music seriously while in prison.

Twenty of the most fleet of foot dancers from Breaffy will take to the dance floor in the Breaffy House Sports Arena in what promises to be a night of great entertainment and fun for all the family on Saturday November 9.

Worlds of Music takes to the Linenhall stage

Worlds of Music is an innovative and engaging performance by a range of musical communities at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Friday November 8 at 8pm.

Celebrating music from around the world, Worlds of Music features performances involving groups including people with disabilities, who have worked in collaboration with professional artists. The first half features a percussion piece created specifically for the event through a workshop and rehearsal process led by well-known percussionist Robbie Harris, working with service users from Western Care and members of the general public. Members of the award-winning Soundscape music programme for people with intellectual disabilities from Galway will also perform a colourful version of the ancient epic Hindu tale The Ramayana with live accompaniment of music and sound effects performed on the instruments from the Indonesian gamelan and wayang tradition. The second half of this show will feature community music making group Gamelan na Gaillimhe playing a repertoire of classical and contemporary Javanese music played on a stunning collection of 20 bronze percussion gamelan instruments from Java.

The Man from Moogaga in Tuar Mhic Éadaigh

Aindrias de Staic, comedian, actor, musician and presenter of TG4'S Jig Gig will present his new show The Man from Moogaga as Gaeilge, this Sunday, October 20 in Máire Lukes, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, at 8pm to celebrate Tóstal Mhaigh Eo. Admission is free agus cuirfear fáilte roimh gach éinne! The show will be followed by music with Ceol na Locha.

Football, music and mayhem collide in this comic tale of jigs, reels, raggle taggle and growing up in rural west of Ireland. The show focuses on the life and adventures of a young man from the town of Moogaga. Despite having a natural talent for music the young man has only one goal, to play Gaelic football for his town, and he prioritises this over developing his musical skills. However having neither the skill nor the physique to make the team, and frustrated by life in Moogaga, he decides to travel across Europe and America in the hope that he will find a town like Moogaga that will accept him. He travels far and wide all the time acquiring new musical skills yet at all time driven by the goal to become stronger and play football. In a one-horse town he finds acceptance and love as he learns to play new rhythms but trouble and strife soon follow too... Eventually, The Man from Moogaga returns home to find his hometown in the football final and desperately in need of something to help them win the match. Can The Man from Moogaga embrace his musical talents in time to inspire his team to win the cup?
