A total of 55 projects involving a total of €2.9m in State funding were approved at an Údarás na Gaeltachta board meeting in Na Forbacha last week, which will lead to the creation of 193 new jobs when fully implemented.

Gaeltacht based companies have been seriously affected by the national and global economic downturn and as a result, net employment in Údarás na Gaeltachta supported companies fell by 771 - or 8.8 per cent last year. In the early years of the 20th century the Irish language increasingly was associated with poverty and backwardness.
