Exciting new Irish summer college ready for enrolments

Coláiste Néifinn is a newly founded Irish summer college in west Mayo for 12 to 15-year-olds. This college aims to bring life to our native language outside the Gaeltacht. The co-ordinators are two Irish teachers from west Mayo who have both been teaching Irish for nearly 10 years. They also have taught in several Gaeltacht colleges, so they can bring a lot of experience to Coláiste Néifinn in Castlebar.

Jethro Tull has just announced that he is to perform on the main stage at The Royal Theatre on March 20 2011. Early in 1968 a group of young British musicians, born from the ashes of various failed regional bands, gathered together in hunger, destitution, and modest optimism in Luton, north of London. With a common love of blues and an appreciation, among them, of various other music forms, they started to win over a small but enthusiastic audience in the various pubs and clubs of southern England. The breakthrough came when they were offered the Thursday night residency at London’s famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street, Soho.

Jobs in Údarás na Gaeltachta assisted-companies rose by 704 full-time positions last year, with a net decrease of 398 jobs overall. However in Mayo, while 48 new jobs were created in the Gaeltacht last year, taking job losses into account there was a net loss of 132 jobs in the county.
