Coeliac Society welcomes publication of new ICGP coeliac guidelines

The Coeliac Society and the Irish College of General Practitioners have published new guidelines on the diagnosis and management of adult coeliac disease. These guidelines put in place a framework for the early identification and treatment of patients with coeliac disease in primary healthcare.

NUI Galway researcher John Daly was named PhD Researcher of the Year at the recent Irish Cancer Society Research Awards. Mr Daly, who is currently doing a PhD with NUI Galway, was presented with the award for his studies into combatting multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer for which there is currently no cure.

Scientists from NUI Galway and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in the UK have shown how the parasite responsible for the neglected tropical disease black fever (visceral leishmaniasis) can become resistant to drug treatment, in a paper published today in the life sciences and biomedicine journal eLife.
