Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary is calling for enhanced co-ordination of organisations like Inland Fisheries Ireland, Tourism and Fáilte Ireland, the OPW, and angling and fishing groups in Northern Ireland to support, educate, and enhance fishing communities across the country. Deputy Calleary wants to see the fish stocks in our rivers and seas replenished to levels which would have been commonplace in previous decades and wants Minister Michael Creed to engage with the IFI to find out what resources it needs to function more proactively.

Master distiller, Robert Cassell, who has won numerous international gold medals for his prior gins, has enjoyed working with several botanicals iconic to Ireland, such as elderberry flower and hawthorn berry.

A number of angling development projects in Mayo have been awarded funding to improve angling access in the area. The projects are some of 50 angling development projects across the country which will receive support from Inland Fisheries Ireland as part of its Capital Works Fund. The projects, which focus on improving angling access and infrastructure, will now be delivered in 2017.

To mark Culture Night this year, the Museum of Country Life in Turlough Park will host a talk on The Vikings on the Atlantic Coast of Ireland. The talk will be given by Eamon P. (Ned) Kelly, who is the former Keeper of Irish Antiquities in the National Museum of Ireland. Ned will be well known to many people in Mayo.
