People of the Tribes: Meet Monica.

I have great memories of the GIAF since I was born in Prospect Hill and could walk to all the events. One of the highlights for me was the Macnas parade, and also for my children. I have volunteered for many organisations over the years, Enable Ireland, GRCC, Galway Hospice, and Galway Simon. I work in the James Hardiman library in Nuig, and because I only work the semesters, I am privileged to have the time to volunteer.

Hi, my name is Cian Waters. I'm from Craughwell Co. Galway. I like hanging out with my friends and playing soccer on the local astroturf. I really love Galway, it's a nice place to live, very safe, the people are extremely nice. It's also a very cheap place to live compared to Dublin which is a bonus. I'm here on the N59 selling Strawberries and planning on going to Formentera, Spain later in the summer.

Hi, my is David Walsh. I'm from Limerick originally and as much as I love my city, I have made friends here and settled in beautiful Galway two years ago. I have fond memories of Galway as a kid and knew in my heart I would live here someday. It's full of culture and art and it supports entertainers, one of the many reasons why I chose Galway. I have been practising magic since 1993 and my passion is stronger than ever for the craft that has given me so much, I'm now 38 and I'm still a student of magic. I perform on the street with a table but sometimes without to give me more freedom to approach people David Blaine style. The street is the purest arena to perform in, it's raw, challenging and very honest as your not hired to be there. You must showcase your skills and let them decide who to glorify. Tipping the hat or liking my facebook page, it's all accepted with a smile. I get on all well with the other buskers and feel since race week last year I have definitely made a name for myself on shop street. Magic is a performance art and it's something I'm passionate about and to have the opportunity to make someone's day for me that's a gift that simply has to be shared. Magic has huge popularity in the last few years from TV specials to Britain's Got Talent and behind. Magic is in everyone's hearts and I'm just pulling the strings sometimes. My legacy is simply that I strived to be the best magician I could and my audience enjoyed the experience. I will always be a street performer and I will have love for Galway City.

Hi, my name is Kieran O Malley, I’m from a beautiful part of Mayo called Bonniconlon, located in the foothills of the Ox mountains, close to Ballina. I moved to Galway in 2000 when I came here to study marketing in GMIT and spent seven incredibly happy years in the place, during which time I had the honour of being Student Union President amongst other roles. I currently work as part of the digital marketing team for the Connacht Hospitality team, which includes An Pucan, 1520, Hyde Bar, The Connacht Hotel, The Forster Court Hotel, the Residence Hotel and Active 24 Fitness. Outside work I enjoy soccer and blogging, my blog The Galway Player has helped to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of this amazing city and its people. The business community of Galway have been unbelievably supportive of my blog and I endeavour to return the favour whenever possible through my social media channels. My favourite thing about Galway is definitely the people and my favourite place is the Prom in Salthill where I can be found most free evenings.

My name is Jackie Meenahan form Ballina Co.Mayo. I'm at this job most of my life, I had a fish shop in Ballina which I retired from many years ago, I was fed up doing nothing so I decided to go on the road around the country selling seaweed and I've never looked back since. Its great for my mental health, I come to Galway every Friday to the Moycullen market, make a few bob selling the ol dillisk which comes from Achill Island and make new friends along the way.

Hi, I'm Paul David Murphy and I'm from Ballinrobe, County Mayo but and I live and work in Galway city centre. I've embraced the city with both hands since I moved here in 2009 and I love it. For the last number of years, I've been heavily involved in the Arts and Events scene and I've worked at almost every event and Festival in City. September two years ago I set up Tiny Traders Village. Aside from running this I also work freelance in the Events industry and in hospitality. I also am a semi-professional stand up comedian and I'm just back from a second UK tour with Internet sensations and fellow Galwegians Farmer Michael and Kathleen. I've been unofficially labelled the "busiest man in Galway" by some due to my involvement in "everything" around the town. I absolutely love Galway and I genuinely think its one of the best places to live in the World. Bring on the summer.

Hi, I'm Cian. I'm a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Galway city and I've been busking for about three years. My songs are heavily lyrics-based, acoustic indie-folk. I've been studying poetry this year as part of my college course (Arts with Creative Writing) so that's kinda tied in with the songwriting...i.e. I've been able to write songs and call them poems. I'm mainly influenced by Irish singer-songwriters in the same genre - the likes of Damien Rice, Fionn Regan and Dermot Kennedy...anyone that writes nice folk-y, story songs. I'll be busking and gigging around Galway all summer and although I've got a decent body of songs written, I'm picky enough to have not put any of them online yet...I'll be throwing some videos up online in the next few months but I'm not sure exactly when I'll be recording and releasing them properly yet.
