An art project, which documented the everyday lives of people in Fána Burca and provided instruction for residents in digital video, photography, animation, and web-based media, will be launched next week.

Charity Christmas cards for Malawi

Zikomo, a local charity dedicated to fostering long-term self sufficiency of rural communities in southern Malawi, has launched this years selection of fundraising Christmas cards. A small team from Galway have been developing this community to community link since 2002. Four NUIG graduates returned this autumn from Malawi having completed the building of a second community centre. The furnishing and equipping of this centre will be completed thanks to the €1,200 raised by the university choir and orchestra. In addition, with the help of the Galway County Council, Zikomo can now also install a solar panel on one of the community centres. Through the sale of the new range of Christmas cards Zikomo hopse to install a second solar panel. Card collections contain four photos by award winning photographer Pat O'Connor, and Malawian artist Martin Mchekeya. Cards are available in Dubray bookshop, Clarenbridge Antiques, Charlie Byrne’s, and Evergreen Healthfoods in the Galway shopping centre.

The WhistleBlast Quartet (Mary Curran, French horn; Kenneth Edge, saxophones, clarinet; Síle Daly, oboe, cor anglais; Andrew Synnott, piano) performs and narrates Tchaikovsky’s magical Nutcracker Suite as arranged by Ken Edge as part of this Christmas family concert for all ages.
