Westmeath art goes from strength to strength with launch of new plan

A new film club in Sonna, an African drumming workshop in Empor, an active age celebration of Bealtaine in Kilbeggan, a Mullingar camera club exhibition, as well as the Festival of Fire at Uishneach and the All-Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone were just some of the “incredible” attractions on offer from the arts in Westmeath for just the month of May, according to Westmeath’s arts officer, Catherine Kelly, at the launch of the county’s second arts plan in the county buildings in Mullingar this week.

Mullingar Camera Club exhibition opens

Mullingar Camera Club will open their annual exhibition on Thursday May 20 in The Atrium, Westmeath County Council Buildings, Mount Street, Mullingar. The exhibition will open at 6.30pm and will be officially launched by Des Clinton FIPF, FRPS, FIAP. Des has been taking photographs for over 30 years. Most of his photography has been documenting people, places, and events. Des is currently the Royal Photographic Society Regional Organiser for Ireland and is a member of the Visual Art distinctions panel. He lectures and judges widely in Ireland and the UK.

Council launches ambitious sports week

Representatives of 24 different sports were in attendance in the council atrium on Monday to help launch “Destination Sport - Mullingar”, a week long celebration of sport planned for June 12-20 around the town.
