Mayo County Council has this morning (Monday, January 13) confirmed that their flood emergency plan remains in place and will continue for the duration of this weather warning.

Local TD, Denis Naughten, has confirmed the allocation of €108,000 from Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran towards the cost of addressing an ongoing flooding problem on the Drum Road, at Crancam.

With the winter season upon us, Mayo County Council is urging drivers to always drive to the prevailing weather conditions in order to keep safe on the roads throughout the county.

Following a meeting of Galway County Council Crisis Management Team to assess the current weather conditions, weather warnings have been updated and the status orange weather warning remains in place for Galway. Storm force winds and gusts are expected with extremely high seas. Rainfall is likely to be heavy throughout this evening and tonight. Flooding including coastal flooding and wave overtopping is likely.

The Galway City Council Crisis Management Team and Head of Departments met again this afternoon. All precautionary measures from Galway City Council’s contingency plan are now in place and Storm Lorenzo will continue to be monitored as it develops throughout the evening.
