The St Joseph’s club were well represented in the national multi—events Championships held in Tullamore at the weekend. Athletes from the club took part in seven of the events and while amassing high scores in most they claimed medals in four – one gold, two silver and one bronze. In the under 14 pentathlon Paul Manning scored 2,345 points to win the silver medal.

Local Fine Gael Senator Nicky McFadden has branded the HSE’s failure to provide transport for patients from Longford, Mullingar, and Athlone to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore as a shameful act of neglect. Senator McFadden went on to say that this move is forcing patients to travel to Dublin, to other hospitals, to obtain their treatment.

Family get jury date for alleged slash hook attack

A father, mother, and son, all pleading not guilty to their part in an alleged slash hook and samurai sword attack on a woman last year, were returned for trial to the Circuit Court at a hearing in Athlone District Court this week (June 9).

This is not just a local town for local people

It really disappoints me to see such resentfulness towards things that should be welcomed and celebrated. Unfortunately there just doesn’t seem to be enough forward thinking in one half of the county, meaning one of the largest annual events the Midlands has ever seen could be in jeopardy.
