Kilkenny’s three Special Olympics athletes returned home this week, bringing with them their entourage of supporters, as well as a new collection of medals and ribbons to show for their efforts.

As the curtain drew down on the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games on Monday, there was jubilation across Galway with no fewer than 11 medals set to return to the county.

The Special Olympics All Ireland Collection Day takes place on April 15 and as many people as possible are needed to volunteer to be collectors on the day.
