The cases against six staff members accused of assault at the Áras Attracta care facility in Swinford have been adjourned to July 10.

Six people were charged with assault in Swinford District Court, sitting in Ballina this moring arising out of incidents that occured at Áras Attracta care home in Swinford. The six were all staff members in the care home. The assaults are alleged to have taken place on dates between 6 and 17 November 2014.

Council to sell lands to Applegreen

The elected members of the Ballina Municipal District this week agreed to sell to Applegreen a small parcel of land located beside its newly opened service station on the junction of the N5 and the R320 in Swinford. The plot of land, which measures 0.212 acres at Carrowbaun, has no development potential on its own, the members were told, and the only development value it could have would be to the owners of the service station.

All tight at the top early on

In the Welcome Inn Premier A there are three sides locked together at the top of the table with Glenhest Rovers, Westport United B, and Killala all level on six points after two wins from two for the three sides. Last Saturday night they had a 3-0 win over Partry Athletic with Mark McNally, Paul Geraghty, and Jordan Ring finding the net. The other side with six points so far, Killala, will take on Swinford on Sunday, last time out Killala had a 3-1 win over Moy Villa who have found it hard to adjust to the life after the Super League so far this season, losing both their opening two games.

Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town events in Swinford this weekend

Bank of Ireland recently hosted a townhall meeting in Swinford to announce its Enterprise Town initiative in partnership with the local community. The Bank has taken a three-pillar approach to this initiative, whereby the local Branch Manager, Rory Curran will work closely with the business community, the wider sports and social community and the schools in the town. Various planned activities will take place over the weekend of Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, the aim of which is to promote and drive momentum for SMEs in the locality, while showcasing all that the town has to offer.

Government TDs welcome Leader funding for projects

The announcement by Minister for Environment, Alan Kelly that he has sanctioned Mayo North East Leader Partnership to approve funding for four projects in the area, was welcomed by Government TDs this week. The three projects are: €301,499 to Comharchumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile Eachleim Teoranta to renovate Naomh Bhreandain Community Hall in Eachleim, Blacksod. €177,350 for the development of a commuity centre in Attymass. €167,635 for the completion of phase two of the Bonniconlon Community Centre, and €150,334 for the Swinford community recreation centre.
