Ballyvary Blue Bombers kicked the night off with a nervy 4-3 win over Snugboro in the opening division one contest. Despite opening a healthy lead, the Bombers were left hanging on towards the end as Snugboro almost pulled off a sensational comeback.

Console to host Celebration of Light in Swinford

Families and friends of people lost through suicide in Mayo have the chance to get together to remember their loved ones at Console’s upcoming Christmas Celebration of Light. The evening of song, music, poetry, and reflection takes place in Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Swinford on Sunday November 29 at 4pm. The evening also includes the lighting of candles and a minute’s silence in the presence of others to remember those who are no longer with us on life's journey. More than 500 people lost their lives to suicide in Ireland last year. The event is one of nine celebrations of light being held by the national suicide prevention and bereavement charity Console, with some 6,000 people expected to attend nationwide.

Áras Attracta worker to plead guilty

One of the HSE employees who had been charged with assault on elderly residents of the Áras Attracta care home in Swinford following the broadcast of a RTÉ Investigations Unit programme showing undercover footage of practices in the home last December, is to plead guilty to three charges of assault at Swinford District Court sitting in Ballina on Wednesday morning was told.

Dublin date for Mayo band

Everyday Solution are five Mayo boys, one of whom has just finished his Leaving Cert. The five formed a band while at secondary school in Swinford. The band has gigged across the west of Ireland, headlining Enniscrone Festival this year, and the fast-rising Mayo band are playing the Grand Social in Dublin tomorrow, November 14, and have been a runaway success this year.

Manulla keep things interesting at the top

Manulla were back giant killing again at the weekend when they defeated Ballina Town in a pulsating contest. With it delicately poised at the break at 1-1 Manulla kicked for home in the second period. Aidan O’Hora was on target for Ballina Town while Gary Durkan and Enda McGahon bagged the crucial goals for Tom Healy’s men. Westport Utd put their harrowing defeat to Ballyglass behind them from last weekend with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Charlestown Athletic. Goals from Pat Fitzgerald, Joe Lawless, and veteran Vinny O’Malley were enough for John Brennan’s men.
