Ballina back to local action after national win

Fresh from their historic 6-3 win over Instonians in the quarter-final of the All Ireland Junior Cup last weekend, Ballina will go looking to make it five wins from five on the domestic front when they return to action in the Connacht Junior 1A League. So far this season the north Mayo men have been in flying form running up big scores, seeing off Westport 27-7, Galwegians 56-5, and Buccaneers 69-22, the closest that any side has got to them in the league this season is third place Sligo, but Ballina still saw them off 27-19 a month ago. On Sunday they will expect to make it win number five when they take on seventh placed Monivea who have only registered one win so far this season from their four outings.

A new rhythm coming to Ballina next year

North Mayo production company Atlantic Rhythm Productions is preparing to launch a new summer show that is set to take Mayo by storm. Tradbeats, a fully choreographed contemporary show featuring seven talented musicians and 14 champion Irish dancers, will take place in Ballina Arts Centre on Wednesday, July 18, and Wednesday, August 8, 2018, and is expected to attract significant interest from visitors and locals alike at the height of the tourist season. Mayo records higher temperatures and lower rainfall last year

Mayo saw higher mean temperatures and lower total rainfall in 2016 compared to 2015 according to the records from Met Eireann's four weather stations in the county. The warmest mean monthly temperature recorded in the county was in Newport in August at 15.5 degrees, with the Claremorris station recording a monthly mean high temperature of 15.1 degrees in August also, while in the same month Knock Airport recorded a monthly mean year high of 14.4 degrees with Belmullet's station recording its monthly mean high for the year of 14.6 degrees in June.
