THE GALWAY Fringe Festival will launch its programme this Saturday in the Mechanics Institute, Middle Street, at 6pm and the line-up is bursting at the seams with visual arts, music, comedy, theatre, and literature.

NUI Galway signed an agreement on Tuesday with Tsinghua University in China to collaborate on both education and research activities. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was witnessed by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and President of China, Xi Jinping, in The Great Hall of the People immediately prior to the State Banquet to mark the visit.

Already a huge star in Ireland where he produces and presents the hit TV comedy review show The Panel, Dara has now moved from being a sold-out festival favourite in Edinburgh to selling out theatres across the UK and mainstream television success including hosting popular TV shows such as Mock the Week.

Dara O’Briain returns for one night only at The Royal Theatre Castlebar on Friday, September 21. Dara is the biggest Irish comic to have emerged in recent years. Having become a huge star in Ireland he moved to the UK, and went from being a sold-out festival favourite in Edinburgh to selling out theatres across the UK and mainstream television success. His television work includes hosting popular TV shows such as Mock the Week and a run hosting The Apprentice: You're Fired! on BBC 2, along with the Three Men in a Boat series with Griff Rhys Jones and Rory Mc Grath which has run for a number of series.

Fling, an Irish band combining traditional, bluegrass and rock, will play Monroes as part of the Galway Sessions on Wednesday June 13. With influences as diverse as Planxty and Led Zeppelin, the band have made a huge mark on the national and international scene. They have taken their live act to festivals such as Electric Picnic, Body and Soul, the White Horse Sessions, and the Galway Americana Festival.
