Reduced VAT rate leads to job creation in Westmeath

A recent report published by the Restaurant Association of Ireland (RAI) has revealed that 1,441 new jobs in the accommodation and food services sector have been created in county Westmeath since the introduction of the reduced VAT rate of nine percent in July 2011.

Belleek Castle is an iconic Irish Country House, Restaurant and spectacular wedding venue. The general manager Maya Nikolaeva and her team are thrilled to announce their recent awards. This week the Library Restaurant at Belleek Castle has picked up the award for Best Restaurant in Connacht at the Good Eating Guide Awards. Local chef Stephen Lenahan leads the kitchen team and his philosophy to use local and seasonal ingredients has proved successful and together with his talented team has won a large range of awards for their food over the last couple of years.

Irish International Hotel and Catering School launching a new course this spring

The IIHCS recognises that there is a chronic shortage of qualified chefs in Ireland and this is particularly true in the west. After talking to a number of professional bodies and restaurant owners the IIHCS is pleased to launch its Spring level 5 (QQI major award) programme, which will begin on April 18. This is a 16 week full-time programme followed by a period of placement within specially selected kitchens in the area and working with committed chefs who will ensure that you continue to learn while practising the skills learned in the training kitchen.
