Portumna Golf Club: It was a story of the three Marys from Portumna as the minor ladies won the All-Ireland at Donabate Golf Club. Portumna were unstoppable in the final with Mary McDonagh leading the way by scoring a 4&3 win in the first match. Mary McElroy followed with an impressive 7&5 win before Mary Kelly brought the title west thanks to a 5&4 win in the penultimate game.

Quinlan made sure of the trophy when he hit a tremendous four iron to 10ft at the difficult par three 16th to see off David Prendergast of Naas in the fifth and final match. The team was captained by Matt Donoghue.

Practically every person in Galway knows of Griffin’s Bakery, just at the end of Shop Street where it turns into Quay Street. Oughterard Golf Club: Oughterard is celebrating All Ireland success after winning the Irish Mixed Foursomes trophy. The Connacht champions defeated their Munster counterparts, Lisselan, by 3 - 2 at Castlerock Golf Club. In the semi-finals Oughterard scored a 3-2 win over the Ulster champions City of Derry, while Lisselan beat the Leinster champions, Clontarf, by 4-1.

The hunt for the meteorite which landed on Irish soil last week has been narrowed down to an area between Portumna and Galway city, according to Astronomy Ireland which is appealing for more people to log reports of the fallen fireball.
