Athlone u16 footballers put in an inspired second half performance to see off the challenge of a highly fancied Coralstown/Kinnegad side in the precursor to the senior final replay last Sunday. The blues had wind advantage in the opening half but failed to bring their shooting boots and trailed 0-4 to 0-3 at the break.

Galway Golf Club’s Eddie McCormack (+3) has been included in the team to represent Ireland in the Home Internationals that take place at Ashburnham Golf Club, Wales from August 11 to 13. The Cavan golfer, who plays out of the Galway club, has enjoyed consistent form throughout 2010 - a beaten finalist in the West of Ireland, third-round leader in the East of Ireland championship, and two singles wins for Connacht in the recent interprovincial series at Ballinrobe Golf club.
