Moylette makes his way back

St Anne’s Ray Moylette will compete in the semi-finals of the National Elite Championships in the National Stadium in Dublin this evening. The former European and World junior champion saw off the challenge of Sean Montgomery (Canal BC) last Sunday in the same venue. The Islandeady boxer will be up against Portlaoise’s Michael Nevin who won two bouts last weekend to get to this stage of the competition. If Moylette picks up the win he’ll face the inner of Dean Walsh (St Joseph’s/St Ibars) and Rohan Date (St Paul’s).

Mayo boxers perform well in Connacht finals

Mayo boxers won 23 of the 40 contests on the programme for the finals of the 2013 Connacht Championships in Oughterard last Saturday. In one of the 10 all-Mayo contests Declan Mc Donagh (Claremorris) had an impressive win against Padraig McDonagh (Geesala). The Claremorris boy has had a tremendous amount of experience from championship boxing this season, having contested 11 bouts so far this year.

Almost forty finals and semi-finals on the cards this weekend

Following last weekend’s action in the preliminary and quarter finals of the 2013 Mayo championships in the Peter Callaghan Centre home of St Anne’s Boxing Club in Westport, the action will move to north Mayo this weekend, over Saturday and Sunday, where two days of boxing will kick off in the Killala Community Centre at 11am Saturday. On the weekend’s card are 18 semi-finals and 19 finals. Big weekend of action at St Anne’s and Castlebar tournaments

St Anne’s Boxing club held a very successful tournament in the Peter Callaghan Centre last Saturday night, January 12, winning 10 of the 16 contests on the bill. The female bout between Ellen McDonagh (St Anne’s) and Rosie Conway (Geesala) was awarded the best contest of the evening and Liam McStravick (St Anne’s) received the award for the best boxer of the night.
