Westmeath youth services to receive some €260,000 in funding

Three youth services in Westmeath are to receive funding of some €260,000 for 2011; Athlone Youth Information Centre, Midlands Project Athlone, and Mullingar Youth Response Project. The funding was announced by Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald this week. Athlone Youth Information Centre is set to receive €58, 230, Midlands Project Athlone will get €101,988, and Mullingar Youth Response Project will get funding of €92,168. Longford Youth Services Project also received funding of €92,168 from the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.

Top international tour operators get a flavour of the Midlands

A large group of international tour operators and buyers visited Kilbeggan Distillery and Old Locke’s Distillery Museum on a familiarisation trip to the Midlands. The group are in Ireland to attend Meitheal 2011, the annual travel trade workshop organised by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland. Meitheal is one of the largest tourism trade workshops and the most important event of the Irish tourism calendar.

Record fair in Mullingar this weekend

Record Fairs Ireland are back in the Midlands, and are making a return to Mullingar at Danny Byrnes this Saturday October 30. The fair will feature a massive head-spinning range of vinyl records spanning almost every era and every genre, from the 1950s right up to the present day, from blues to metal, rap to alternative, punk to funk, post-rock to 80s rock, and Irish to indie.

Fashionable fillies set to descend upon the Midlands

Building on the success of last year, the Gigginstown Midlands National Day at Kilbeggan Races today, Friday July 16, is set to be the biggest meeting at the racecourse to date. Khan Boutique in Mullingar is sponsoring the Best Dressed at the event and will present the winner with a prize worth in excess of €2,500. This year the Khan Best Dressed will be judged by Xposé regular, Image magazine fashion contributor, and Sunday Independent beauty editor Triona McCarthy; top Irish designer Rachel Mackay; and head of news from Midlands 103, Clara Walsh.

Second garden party at Belvedere House

On Sunday July 25 the second garden party of the summer will take place in Belvedere House, Mullingar, with a romantic theme. The day will begin with a garden demonstration from Belvedere gardener John Smyth who will design a romantic rose garden at 1pm. From 2.30pm on the house lawn the Midlands Youth Orchestra will entertain you before the 4pm matinee production of Pride and Prejudice in the outdoor garden theatre by the Chapterhouse Theatre company.
