Mayo County Childcare Committee (Mayo CCC) has welcomed the recent announcement to provide €23,520 to a number of voluntary notified child minders and Parent & Toddler groups in Mayo.

Information evening on supporting literacy for children

Mayo County Childcare Committee (MCCC) welcomes Inez Bailey of the National Adult Literacy Association (NALA) and Eleanor O’Toole of the Mayo Library service to speak at an information evening for parents on the topic of supporting young children’s literacy and numeracy skills. The evening will be held in the Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, on Tuesday October 23, from 7.30pm to 9pm, and there is no charge.

The Education Working Group of Mayo County Development Board is hosting an ‘Education and Training Expo’ in The Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar on Saturday June 16, which will feature a broad mix of educational providers in the county offering information on courses and training supports to suit people of all ages. Information on both accredited and non-accredited part-time, full-time and evening / weekend courses will be supplied.

Spectacular progress for children’s project

A researcher has hailed the “spectacular progress” made by a Castlebar-based children’s project and said its work was a model for other countries to follow. “What’s going on here in Mayo is of international significance,” said Professor Howard Stevenson of the University of Lincoln. He was speaking at the open day of MCI, an organisation for young people living with domestic abuse and family conflict in Ireland.

The Mayo Multilingual Support Services Booklet was recently launched in Castlebar by Jim Power of the Mayo County Childcare Committee. The booklet was developed to provide information on support services for children and families that are available in Mayo.

Free pre-school in Mayo

Mayo County Childcare Committee is delighted to be in a position to confirm that the Free Pre-School Year Scheme in Early Childhood Care and Education starts in January 2010. The scheme is being introduced by the office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs with the local work being done by the Mayo County Childcare Committee.
