Clare Island joined the speedy end of the broadband world recently with a brand new wireless network built to provide high speed Internet access to residents. Local Mayo broadband company WestNet built the network which covers the harbour area and the eastern side of the Island.

Mayo County Council announces Tyrone Guthrie regional bursary scheme recipients

Every year Mayo County Council offers two special bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Each bursary covers all board and lodging expenses for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. There are a variety of work spaces including studios, a music room for composers and musicians, a multi-media room and a large rehearsal and performance space.

Her parents John and Kathleen Morley are from Knock and Claremorris respectively and will be making the trip to Ruislip on Sunday to support the green and red, while Yvonne will be squarely behind the exiles’ charge to knock Mayo out of the Connacht Championship. “They’re making the trip to the game, my dad is a football fanatic and was massively involved in the GAA in Toronto and we used to make the trip to New York for the game over there when Mayo came over, but I’ll have to be supporting London this time around.”

With much anticipation the doors will open to the public at 10am with admission free. The Galway event is part of Ireland’s largest one-day charity dress sale 'Buy My Dress' taking place in Galway, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Mayo, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow in aid of Down Syndrome Centre. Last year over 1,000 dresses were collected in Galway alone and hopes are high for a similarly successful event this time around.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has received information relating to the recent Prime Time programme highlighting the standards of some organisations within the home care sector. One of the main problems highlighted in the programme was the absence of Garda vetting for people dealing with the elderly.
